Sluggish Retail Market, Ramayana Strengthens Store Expansion with New Concept

JAKARTA, NNC - The weakening of the retail sector does not make business operators stop expanding, like what is done by PT Ramayana Lestari Sentosa Tbk (RALS.JK). The company opened a new outlet in Cityplaza, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, which occupies an area of 8,353 square meters at the end of last week.

This outlet is the 114th owned by the company and part of the fourth new store expansion strategy that opened this year after those were previously inaugurated at Harapan Indah, Pondok Aren, and Cikupa.

RALS Corporate Secretary Setyadi Surya said the opening of this Ramayana outlet is in line with the one planned in early 2017.

According to him, despite the sluggish economic condition and shifting pattern of public spending, his side must continue to expand to keep investor and shareholders confidence.

"We have to make new breakthroughs to be able to get sales growth in 2017," said Setyadi in a written statement in Jakarta, Monday (12/4/2017).

He explained Ramayana breakthrough is by opening outlets that have the concept of entertainment (lifestyle). Through Ramayana Prime, visitors cannot only shop and they can also enjoy a number of other entertainment facilities such as play area, cinema and food court.

He explains also there are a number of challenges faced by the retail industry today. In addition to changes in community spending patterns, the provincial minimum wage (UMP) hike by 8.71 percent and the 5-percent rise in the cost of renting a shopping center make retail business actors have to be creative in order to survive.

"Promotion programs will continue to be done to re-attract interests of public to shop," he said.
