Unrelated with Politics, Govt Decides Not to Raise Fuel Price and Electricity Tariff Until 2019

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan.

JAKARTA, NNC - The government through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources ensures the price of fuel oil (BBM) does not rise in order to maintain the purchasing power of society.

Energy Minister Ignasius Jonan emphasized that the government's position in maintaining the rate of fuel tariffs for Premium (gasoline) and Diesel type, as well as electricity until 2019, has nothing to do with the political year.

"In the cabinet meeting it was decided. The Commission VII [of the House of Representatives] which represents the people in the last meeting also supports if possible electricity tariffs are not increased," said Jonan at Damar Room of Heritage Building at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Building, Monday (3/5/2018).

Jonan added that Pertamina, Minister of SOE, Minister of Finance, and Minister of Energy agreed the price of specially allocated fuels and RON 88 (Premium) is unchanged and it does not increase.

"What if later on the oil price is USD100 per barrel? Well, it will be reviewed again. In principle it does not go up. So do not make it up," he said.

Finally, Jonan added that he would ask compensation from the House Commission VII for Pertamina. In principle, electricity, Premium and Diesel tariffs will not change.
