Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Lays Down Facts About Indonesia’s Debts

Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati

JAKARTA, NNC - The Ministry of Finance asserts that the government continues to measure the country's debt levels well. Moreover, its current position as of end of May 2018 reached IDR4,169 Trillion.

Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani explained that 2015 growth in May's position financing amounted to 46 percent, so it jumped very high. Then 2016 growth was 19 percent and starting 2017 the figure was negative.

"It means that the figure isdecreasing, not increasing. This year it decreased 13.1 percent," said Sri Mulyani, Jakarta, Monday (6/25/2018).

In addition, he added that the budget financing position in 2018 is much lower than the previous year.

The minister added that the issuance of state debt instruments until the end of May 2018 also continues to decline. In fact, the decline is very drastic. In 2015, the growth of SBN issuance was 38.9 percent while 2016 it was only 15 percent.

"Starting 2017 the growth of SBN issuance has been negative, this year is negative double digit of 15 percent," she said.

Finally, she argues that the public should not be preoccupied with the issue whether or not the state's finances are in an uncontrolled situation. The evidence, she stressed, clearly shows that the state budget is maintained.

"We continue to support development spending, not trimmed but increased with care," she said.
