JAKARTA, NNC - The Ministry of Agriculture is moving quickly to anticipate the rampant circulation of fake and bootleg garlic seeds.
In addition to writing to all Indonesian Agriculture Offices to be vigilant, the Directorate General of Horticulture at Ministry of Agriculture also intensively conducts socialization and assistance for importers affected by mandatory planting and production in accordance with the provisions of Agriculture Minister Regulation (Permentan) No. 38 Year 2017 and Permentan No. 24 of 2018.
Having previously invited 81 2017 RIPH (Horticulture Product Import Recommendation) holder importers, the Directorate of Vegetables and Medicinal Plants of the Directorate General of Horticulture again called representatives of 15 garlic importers of 2018 RIPH to be given technical cultivation briefings which included the selection of seeds to harvest.
"We emphasize the caution of importers in choosing and buying garlic seeds so as not to be fooled by fake or bootleg seeds," said Director of Vegetables and Medicinal Plants Prihasto Setyanto when giving an official statement in Jakarta on Wednesday (08/29/2018).
He explained that this assistance is very useful to get quality seeds in future. Because once wrong in choosing and buying seeds, it will impact the failure of production which can create a traumatic effect for farmers. Now farmers are actively replanting garlic after decades of vacuum.
"Recommended garlic seeds which are suitable for planting are namely local varieties of green lumbu [spices], yellow lumbu, white lumbu, new tawangmangu, sangga sembalun and one type imported from Taiwan called Great Black Leaf (GBL)," he explained.
