Granulated Sugar Prices Surge in Lampung in A Week

BANDAR LAMPUNG, NETRALNEWS.COM - The price of granulated sugar in a number of traditional markets in Mesuji, Lampung, has risen to reach IDR18,000/kg in the past week.

In Pematang Simpang Market and Mesabasan Brabasan Market, the price of granulated sugar in the past week has increased due to limited stock.

According to several traders in the two markets, the granulated sugar price hike was attributed to declining supply.

"The price of granulated sugar has risen since a week ago," said Ijah, a trader of staples in Simpang Pematang Market.

Previously, traders sold sugar for IDR12,000/kg. However, granulated sugar prices there have now reached IDR18,000 per kilogram.

"I heard that the price increase was due to restricted shipments, causing scarcity or lack of sugar on the market," Ijah said.

Another trader, Edi, said that the price of granulated sugar rose due to the limited availability of supply.

The price of granulated sugar in East Lampung since last week reached IDR18,000 per kilogram.

"The price of sugar has gone up," said Selamet, a trader in Labuhan Maringgai, East Lampung Regency.

A number of traders also mentioned the same, and on average, sugar was sold for IDR18,000/kg.

As reported by Antara, the price of granulated sugar was previously around IDR12,500 to IDR13,000 per kilogram. In a number of food stalls, granulated sugar is sold between IDR17,000-IDR 18,000/kg.
