JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM -The Head of the Board at the Indonesian Hotel & Restaurant Association (PHRI) Sutrisno Iwantono says PHRI has surveyed more than 9,000 restaurants all over Indonesia in September 2020, with 4,469 respondents. It is found that there are 1,033 restaurants that are permanently closed.
"As of October 2020, there are approximately about 125 to 150 restaurants that were closed down per month. If it keeps going, there will be 750 restaurants that are permanently closed down," Sutrisno said in an online press conference on Saturday (02/06/2021).
The permanent business shutdowns has caused an increase of unemployment. The Jakarta chapter of PHRI had delivered a proposal regarding weekend lockdown option, and they asked the Jakarta administration to think over several issues below:
1. Restaurants that have implemented Health Protocol get an exception to open until 21:00 with dine-in capacity of 50%.
2. The local government of Jakarta and all related stakeholders should continuously educate and discipline citizens, especially in the contagion main clusters of neighborhoods, sub-districts, and districts.
3. Increasing the public hand-washing facility, masks, and face shields (if it is possible) for citizens, especially the contagion main cluster areas. For supermarkets, GeNose can be provided.
