JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - PT Kalbe Farma Tbk (IDX:KLBF) has introduced a COVID-19 diagnostic test of saliva samples using the RT LAMP (Reverse Transcription Loop Mediated Isothermal Amplification) method.
The RT LAMP method specifically detects nucleic acids which are genetic material for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The RT LAMP itself is a molecular test that is included in the NAAT (Nucleic Acid Amplification Test) category along with the RT-PCR and TCM.
"The Saliva LAMP examination test will be very useful for accelerating the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, helping the government open wider access, as it is able to reach people living in areas with minimal COVID-19 inspection laboratory infrastructure," said President Commissioner of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk, Irawati Setiady, on Saturday (03/20/2021).
Akterano D. Budiyati, IVD Division Research Manager at the Stem Cell and Cancer Institute, said this molecular test has high accuracy performance with a sensitivity of 94 percent and a specificity of 98 percent.
On the other hand, the method of sampling using saliva is said to provide convenience and practicality compared to other COVID-19 tests that are currently available.
"The saliva sampling does not require special tools, and does not pose a risk of vomiting or a sensitive nose, which makes it very easy for children, hypersensitive people, and is the right choice when the month of fasting is approaching," Akterano said.
In addition, Henry Sukardi, Director of Kalgen Innolab, said the sampling only requires sterile containers and does not require medical personnel with special swab training.
The saliva sampling reduces the risk of transmission at the time of sampling because the patient only needs to spit into the container that is provided, and it is stable at room temperature.
Furthermore, the work application in the laboratory uses the molecular method with simpler equipment so that the examination can be carried out practically, and in the end the price can be economical with faster processing time.
RT LAMP is developed by Kalbe Farma's research and development team, namely the Stem Cell and Cancer Institute (SCI) through a series of tests according to the provisions.
As reported by Antara, the current inspection kit has received distribution permit from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, and will be marketed under the ELVA DIAGNOSTIC SARS CoV 2 Saliva Nucleic Acid Test Kit by PT Enseval Medika Prima.
The Saliva RT LAMP examination service can be found at the Kalgen Innolab Clinical Laboratory (Kalbe Farma Laboratory) with the InnoLAMP brand which serves the general public as well as a reference for cooperating health facilities, especially in the Greater Jakarta area. Kalgen Innolab itself is a private clinical laboratory that has served COVID-19 tests (RT PCR and Rapid Antigen) since April 2020.
