JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan has asked local governments and the public to maintain the investment climate in Indonesia in order to create a safe and conducive atmosphere.
"(Maintain the investment climate) So that investments will continue to grow and become an economic driver in the region," Luhut said in a video remarks on the inauguration of the groundbreaking for Nestle's new factory in Batang, Central Java, on Thursday.
Luhut said he appreciated the US $220 million investment from Nestle Indonesia to build a new factory in Bandaraya, Batang Regency, Central Java, as well as expanding the capacity of three factories in Karawang, West Java; Kejayan, Pasuruan, East Java and Panjang, Lampung, which was completed in 2020.
"Additional investment is very important, and is good news in an effort to revive the national economy and provide employment for people who are currently still in difficult conditions due to the COVID-19 pandemic," he said, as reported by Antara.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant global economic slowdown, including Indonesia. Nevertheless, Luhut said the economy in Indonesia was still well maintained, and he was optimistic that it would soon improve in the second half of this year.
Luhut added that the Indonesian government always strives to create an investment climate that is conducive and open to all stakeholders. He said the Job Creation Law and its derivative regulations also guarantee convenience, while still paying attention to the interests of the public, workers and the environment.
According to Luhut, the decision to build a new factory in Batang will boost the local economy because it will create jobs, and provides opportunities and benefits for local partners such as cattle breeders and other supporting businesses that can develop together.
"I hope that Nestle will also continue to maintain its commitment to provide technical and financial assistance to partners so as to create mutually beneficial relationships between various parties."
