Social Affairs Ministry Improves Facilitator Capacity to Address Stunting (kemsos)

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs has implemented systematic measures in line with Indonesian President Joko Widodo's direction in the handling of stunting. Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini has ordered her staff to prepare and increase the capacity of human resources supporting the Keluarga Harapan Program (PKH).

Syahabuddin, Head of Social Extension Research Education Agency (BP3S), said that in the forum for strengthening and increasing the capacity of human resources, PKH facilitators were given a stunting module in education and training. With this, it is hoped that PKH facilitators will be able to become ambassadors for change.

"I expect the facilitators to become social ambassadors, an ambassadors for prevention and handling of stunting with a social welfare perspective, of course," said Syahabuddin, as in a statement received by Netralnews on Wednesday (06/09/2021).

The statement was made by Syahabuddin when opening an online Stunting Prevention and Handling Training for Social Welfare human capitals in the 2021 Synchronous Session.

He said facilitators can partner with anyone in the field, with the aim of enriching the treasures and strengthening the prevention and handling of stunting in the community, especially for PKH recipients.

Previously, the Minister of Social Affairs stated that she was ready to follow up on the President's directives for handling stunting in Indonesia. The stunting program, said Risma, will start in the province of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

"I will work with the BKKBN as the chief executive of the stunting reduction program. We will start this program from the province of NTT,” said the Minister of Social Affairs.

In his directive, President Joko Widodo requested that the socialization of stunting prevention be connected with the government's social protection programs, especially the Keluarga Harapan Program (PKH) and the distribution of Non-Cash Food Assistance (BPNT)/Staple Food Programs and the development of basic infrastructure that reaches underprivileged families.

To strengthen the commitment to stunting prevention in Indonesia, one of efforts carried out by the Ministry of Social Affairs is by providing food assistance in the form of special fortified rice or micronutrient additions in the hope of meeting the nutrition of the citizens.
