JAKARTA, NNC - Pribudiarta Nur Sitepu, Secretary of the Indonesia Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection, says the Indonesian women's gender development index is still slow and growing below the target.
"Based on studies, the slowdown was attributed to men's gender development index that shot off as compared to the previous years," Pribudiarta said in a press release on Saturday (04/07).
He said there were some variables that cause women to be left behind compared to men. Therefore, Pribudiarta hoped this matter could be discussed in the technical coordination meeting.
Pribudiarta predicted that one of the causes of women's gender development index to be slower than men's index was the view that women should play a greater role in domestic sphere than in the public sphere.
"Academically, there is no equality [issues] for men and women to go to school, the problem is when women decide not to work after going to college," he said.
Similarly, the index of gender empowerment had only rose slightly. "The variables are the roles of women, decision-making, and work space. The movement is still relatively slow," he said.
Meanwhile, The Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection held a technical coordination meeting for the Acceleration of Implementation of Gender Mainstreaming titled 'Collaborative Work for the Acceleration of Implementation of Gender Equality Mainstreaming in the Regional Development of Women Empowerment and Child Protection.'
The technical coordination meeting was attended by the women empowerment offices at provincial and district/municipality levels from all over Indonesia.
