JAKARTA, NNC - Indonesian writer Danarto has passed away on Tuesday (04/10) evening at 20:54 local time.
Danarto passed away in the emergency room of Fatmawati Hospital Jakarta after suffering severe injuries from being hit by a motorcycle in Kampung Utan area, Ciputat, on Tuesday afternoon.
Noorca Massardi, fellow Indonesian writer and friend of Danarto, said in Jakarta on Tuesday that Danarto was hit by a motorcycle when he was crossing the road at around 13:30.
He was then taken to UIN Syarief Hidayatullah Hospital before finally being referred to Fatmawati Hospital at 15:00.
"The motorcycle rider is said to be responsible for the accident, and helped to take Danarto to the hospital," Noorca said.
He added that Danarto was in a state of coma and suffered severe head injuries. The writer reportedly died due to concussion and head fracture.
Noorca added that a number of writers had gathered at the hospital where Danarto was treated, including Uki Bayu Sejati, Teguh Wijaya, Radhar Panca Dahana, Chavchay Syaifullah, Heryus Saputro, Bambang Prihadi, and Amien Kamil.
Danarto will be taken to Sragen, Central Java, to be buried the next day.
During his lifetime, Danarto was known as a writer of Sufism. He wrote a number of phenomenal literary books such as Godlob, Asamaraloka, Adam Makrifat, and Orang Jawa Naik Haji.
