Social Affairs Minister Inspects Disaster Logistics Warehouse in Ogan Ilir (special)

PALEMBANG, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs anticipates disasters by preparing a logistics warehouse equipped with supplies of food and equipment.

"In the logistics warehouse, preservation is needed so that aid can be sent quickly when a disaster occurs," said Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini, also known as Risma, while inspecting the logistics warehouse on Jalan Lintas Sumatra, Inderalaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra, on Tuesday (05/11/2021).

At the logistics warehouse, the Minister of Social Affairs was accompanied by the Regent of Ogan Ilir, Head of BPBD of South Sumatra Province, Director of PSKBA, as well as SKM for Media and Mass Communication.

In the West region, there are logistics warehouses in Medan, North Sumatra; Padang , West Sumatra; and in Banda Aceh, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD).

The logistics warehouses also accommodate disaster equipment, such as rubber boats and evacuation equipment commonly used by Disaster Preparedness Cadets (Tagana).

In the logistics warehouses, there are emergency tents designed by the Minister of Social Affairs made of PVC tarpaulin which can reduce hot air temperatures, and are designed to be windproof.

"We have checked the emergency tents model, which must have holes so that there are supporting poles, so don't just leave the tarpaulin sheet alone," Risma said.

Logistic warehouse management needs to be well organized, including thousands of foodstuffs neatly arranged and ready to be distributed quickly in the event of a disaster.

Risma emphasized that the management of a logistic warehouse should be digitally integrated, which could display data on warehouse contents and no longer be in paper form.

Learning from the disaster in eastern Indonesia, logistical shipments by sea transportation were constrained by waves, while land routes were constrained by roads that were badly damaged. This caused constrains and obstacles in delivering aid to natural disaster hit areas.

On that occasion, the Minister of Social Affairs gave written motivation to the Pioneers of Peace at the Directorate of Social Protection for Social Disaster Victims (PSKBS).

Ending the series of visits, the Minister of Social Affairs planted a Honey Guava Tree from Medan, North Sumatra.
