JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs is committed to supporting government policies related to the Draft Law on Disaster Management which has been submitted to Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives.
"We have discussed the institutions and budgets related to the Disaster Management Bill," said Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini, also known as Risma, at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (17/5/2021).
Regarding the Disaster Management Bill, the Ministry of Social Affairs is in the middle and is asking for direction from the President regarding the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).
"We are in the middle and the idea of the bill is good, because we want to deal with the problems related to the disaster comprehensively," said the Minister of Social Affairs.
Administratively, the letter has been submitted to Commission VIII, and then what is the direction from the President which will be delivered soon.
"Apart from natural disasters, there are also social disasters that are not social conflicts such as refugees who have not been accommodated, non-physical health disasters or terrorist incidents that can be included in the bill," he said.
The President's directive regarding BNPB can also be included in the Disaster Management Bill, such as types of disasters, such as fire on an oil refinery installation in Balongan, Indramayu Regency, West Java.
"The President's directive will strengthen institutional efforts for disaster management in Indonesia, including including undetected types of disasters, such as fires in Balongan, Indramayu," said the Minister of Social Affairs.
