Social Affairs Minister Urges Priority for People Needing Social Welfare Service

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini has conveyed direction and motivation to her staff to further increase their initiatives and be proactive in carrying out their duties. The Minister of Social Affairs asked the Ministry of Social personnel not to be constrained by the limitations of institutional duties and responsibilities.

Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini, also known as Risma, emphasized that services for People Needing Social Welfare Services (PPKS) are a priority. These include providing social welfare services to homeless people, beggars or People with Mental Disorders (ODGJ) where basic needs services are provided by the local government.

If the regulations governing PPKS needs are the authority of other institutions, the Minister of Social Affairs emphasizes that services for PPKS needs are a priority.

"It is impossible for us to be silent while there are abandoned elderly people and people with mental disorders. We cannot just keep quiet. We are the Ministry of Social Affairs, which has been mandated to handle neglected people, people with disabilities," Risma said when giving directions to the 2021 National Social Rehabilitation Coordination Meeting at the office of the Ministry of Social Affairs in Jakarta, on Wednesday (06/09/2021).

However, the actions taken for PPKS are also accompanied by coordination with local governments.

"Yes, if 'the rules are like this', then try talking to (coordinating) with the regional (government). Yes, let's communicate," she said.

Risma hopes that the ranks of the Ministry of Social Affairs will carry out their duties sincerely. Thus, according to the Minister of Social Affairs, various social problems that exist in the country can be resolved.

"Therefore, let's start now, we open the eyes of our hearts, we open our minds, we open our eyes, we open our ears, and we use our mouths, hands and feet to solve social problems that exist throughout our beloved nation," she said.

Furthermore, Risma also explained that the work of the Ministry of Social Affairs is also regulated in the 1945 Constitution. Therefore, if social problems, such as hungry people still exist in Indonesia, said Risma, the Ministry of Social Affairs should be blamed.

On that occasion, the Minister of Social Affairs also emphasized that the policy for the Social Rehabilitation Centers is not only focused on one cluster, but all social rehabilitation clusters starting from children, the elderly, people with disabilities, victims of drug abuse as well as socially disabled and victims of trafficking in persons.

The Minister of Social Affairs directs to map the need for the implementation of multifunctional services, namely Man (Human Resources), Money (Budget) which needs to be prepared to provide services to beneficiaries, Method, which is a way to provide services to various social rehabilitation clusters and facilities in the form of equipment to provide services to beneficiaries.
