House Speaker on Minahasa Wishing Independence: Gov’t Should Not Stay Silent

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Responding to the desire of the people of Minahasa who want to be independent, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Agus Hermanto asked the government not to stay silent.

"Although the movement is still small, the movement must be addressed, because the small thing should not be big. So we handed over to the security apparatus, law enforcement, to prevent this from getting big," said Agus to journalists in the Nusantara III Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday (05/17/2017).

Democrat Party politician asserted the sense of nationality should be strengthened so that the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) to be solid, including preventing clashes between interfaith people and groups.

"Avoiding clashes, let alone interfaith, across groups and tribes, and we have to go to far greater things. Toward a really solid NKRI," appealed the Deputy Speaker of the House, Coordinator for Industry and Development.

Agus also appreciated about the appeal by President Jokowi to all citizens in order to strengthen NKRI. According to him it should be responded by the public and all parties to ward off any threats to the state in any form.

"And we should follow what has been submitted. This only reinforces the things that exist, so [they] do not really run from the existing legal corridor," he said. (*)
