JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Public Prosecutor (JPU) presents the Chairperson of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Ma’ruf Amin as the first witness in the trial of blasphemy case with defendant Tjahaja “Ahok” Basuki Purnama which will be held again in the Auditorium of the Ministry of Agriculture, Jakarta, Tuesday (1/31/2017).
In his testimony, he said MUI’s attitude and opinion MUI were issued based on public report and demand. MUI’s Opinion Decision and Religious Attitude over non-active Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama’s statement on verse 51 of Al-Maidah is higher than the fatwa.
The reason is that MUI’s Opinion Decision and Religious Attitude was discussed by four commission composed of the fatwa, assessment, legislation, as well as information and communication commissions. Then the meeting results of four commissions were submitted to the MUI’s executive board.
The discussion, Ma’ruf explained, took place on October 1 - 11, 2016. The decision stated that Ahok had insulted the Qur'an and scholars. Ahok has positioned the Qu'ran as a lie; positioned the Qur'an lowly. It is ulema who deliver Qur'anic verses. "Then it is also insulting the ulema," he said.
For the Basuki or Ahok case, Ma'ruf said the MUI issued a decision letter for the first time. The product issued in the case of Ahok is different because its discussion involved all the commissions and the executive board.
When asked whether Ma’ruf has seen Ahok's video? He replied he never saw it. However, he saw a transcript of the conversation. "I did not see the video. But the team saw the video. I only had time to read the transcript of his words," he said.
Ahok was charged alternatives of Article 156a with five-year prison time and Article 156 of the Criminal Code with four-year imprisonment. (*)
