JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - A person may sometime experience very rapid heartbeat of more than 100 times a minute even without a definite cause, and this could be a heart rhythm disturbance.
Cardiologist expert Prof. Dr. dr Yoga Yuniadi, Sp.JP (K) from Harapan Kita Hospital said that there are some simple efforts to overcome it temporarily while seeking medical help.
"If your heart beats rapidly but is not life-threatening, you can put an ice-filled cloth on your neck or wash your face with ice water to stop the circuit," he said in Jakarta, as quoted from Antara.
In addition, cover both nostrils while holding your breath for a few seconds. However, according to Yoga, this way only offers a success rate of about 40 percent.
However, when heart pounding coincides with a decrease in consciousness, you should take the patient to the hospital for examination and treatment.
"Generally, if the pounding accompanied by decreased consciousness, go to the hospital as soon as you can," said Yoga.
He recommends people to perform a thorough physical examination at least once a year as early detection when there are problems in health, especially heart.
"Get a physical examination at least once a year. If your cardiovascular system is good, once a year is enough. If there are abnormalities, the next inspection interval is shorter, six months," he concluded.
