CABO SAN LUCAS, NETRALNEWS.COM - A shootout has occurred near a Mexican beach resort in Los Cabos, Mexico, between suspected gang members and naval forces. Eight people were killed in the shootout, including one soldier.
The incident occurred before dawn on the outskirts of San Jose del Cabo, about 30 kilometers northeast of the main tourist area of Cabo San Lucas.
The Mexican Navy said in a statement that seven suspected gang members, two women and five men, were killed in the crossfire. An officer was injured in a gun battle and later died at the hospital.
The Mexican Navy also said security forces later found drugs, vehicles, communications equipment, weapons issued by the military and uniforms, but gave no details.
The state of Western Baja California Sur, popular with tourists and international expatriates, has seen an increase in gangster violence over the past few months.
