PASADENA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The sophistication of artificial intelligence technology or Artificial Intelligence (AI) is considered very promising in fulfilling curiosity and human achievement targets.
AI is an artificial intelligence that is deliberately created to have capabilities just like human capabilities. Even in some conditions, AI can exceed the reasonable limits of human capabilities, including those that create AI technology itself.
One area that can benefit significantly from AI capability is scientific research or studies on life in the solar system and space.
Head of AI Group and Senior Research Scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory Steve Chien said that AI is an important revolution in the study of space and the solar system.
"This AI supports and will be an opportunity for us to do things that humans cannot do regarding space," Steve said at the EmTech Asia 2020 event organized by Koelnmesse Pte Ltd and MIT Technology Review, on Wednesday (08/05/2020).
Steve said that before the existence of artificial intelligence, it was the most difficult thing to do to conduct research or direct studies on objects in the solar system other than Earth.
However, with AI, slowly the challenges of the difficulties began to be carried out by scientists today.
He gave an example that in the past, it was impossible to go to other stars or planets like Mars. Humans can only observe them from Earth and study them through data obtained from these observations.
However, with the AI system, things that used to be difficult might be possible to do now, based on the consideration of unbiased data.
Steve said that AI is also important for the search for life outside of Earth, and plays a key role in the concept of European Submersible and Insterstellar missions to seek life in our solar system and its surroundings.
As it is known, at this time there are many space scientists from various countries who are competing to reach Mars. The red planet is even predicted to be the second home of humans besides Earth.
By utilizing AI, scientists can launch passenger or non-passenger rockets to the Moon, Mars and other space objects.
Not only that, in spacecraft, AI is used for a variety of things including:
- Detecting scientific phenomena on the Earth's land
- Perform triage or the process of determining patient care priorities
- Manage large amounts of space-related science data
- Operate space missions
- Help scientists find data from related tasks
Nevertheless, AI also has a wrong tendency in its implementation. This can happen because AI relies heavily on unbiased data and models along with objectivity in the creation process until it is applicable to the perception of AI actions.
