JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Instant messaging service application WhatsApp has renewed the capacity of participants in voice and video calls on the platform to eight people from the previous capacity of only four.
"To access this service, users need to update the WhatsApp application for Android and iOS to the latest version. After that, the same as the old way, make voice or video calls and select up to eight people to communicate," WhatsApp said.
WhatsApp sees the use of their applications for virtual communication, both through voice and video calls, expanding since the coronavirus pandemic in various countries.
In one month, the average WhatsApp user spoke by phone for more than 15 billion minutes, far from before the COVID-19 pandemic.
WhatsApp ensures that their voice calls are protected by end-to-end encryption so that only users and friends contacted can hear the conversation.
"There is no one else among you, not even WhatsApp itself," they said.
The number of video call participants on WhatsApp is less than Google Duo, which last month added capacity to 12 from the previous eight.
Meanwhile, the FaceTime application for iPhone users can accommodate 32 participants in one call.
