BARCELONA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Spanish La Liga giant Barcelona states that they are going to take "appropriate legal action" towards newspaper El Mundo after an information leak on Lionel Messi's contract detail. The contract value is estimated to reach 492 million pounds or around IDR9.46 trillion.
The Catalunya club argues that the newspaper "is responsible for this leaked document."
According to El Mundo, Messi’s four-year contract probably costs 555,237,619 euros until June 30th 2021.
It means that 33-years-old Messi will receive 123 million pounds (about IDR2,36 trillion) per season.
Barcelona said they "regret" their decision to publish Messi’s contract details.
"FC Barcelona strongly refuses to take responsibility for this document publication, and will take appropriate legal action towards El Mundo newspaper for every harm that possibly happens due to this publication," the club said, as quoted from BBC on Sunday (01/31/2021).
"FC Barcelona declares their absolute support for Lionel Messi, especially in facing every attempt that discredits his reputation and damages his relationship with the football club where he works to be the world best player, and in football history.”
The Argentina national team player joined Barcelona when he was 13 years old, but he once requested to leave the Camp Nou in August 2020.
It is still uncertain whether Messi will stay with the club after the contract ends at the end of this season.
Messi is Barcelona's top scorer, and he has won ten La Liga titles, four Champions League, and six titles from Ballon d’Or.
